Sound Recordings - Natures Conversations

After many years adding all sorts of equipment to go with my cameras and lenses, and having the thirst for experimentation I have had the idea to start recording the sounds of nature also, I initially purchased a small hand held recorder an Olympus LS-P1 which worked well but has its limitations, so I began researching better audio equipment and what I now use is below.

This equipment is quite sophisticated (for me) and takes some time getting used to and I have been faffing with the buttons working out what does what as well as having the seller generously help me set it up in its most basic format for what I intended to use it for! The other issue with this equipment is stowing it somewhere so it doesnt get found, where as the previous recorder would fit in your pocket, this setup does not! I have managed to record quite extensively in different surroundings to a point where I am happy with the quality of the recordings.

To start with I used double AA re-chargable batteries in the mixer as well as the Recorder, and I have found with this is that the battery life lasts a maximum of 3/4 hours in the recorder, and if for example as I have been doing is leaving the equipment out over night recording owls for example, the longer the recording time the better, having external power banks already I hooked one of those up and the recorder will now outlive the Mixer and record for anything up to 6/7 hours.

Equipment List:

Marantz PMD661 MKII

Sound Devices 302 Mixer

Sennheiser Shotgun Microphone

Boundary Microphone

Anker External Power Bank

Wiston Woods after setting up the equipment

There are now several episodes I have recorded in the Diary and on Podbean!
